At Bethesda Home & School for the Blind, we are committed to providing comprehensive support and empowerment programs for visually impaired individuals. Through our diverse range of programs, we aim to foster independence, education, and holistic development among our members. Here are three major programs we offer:

Education

Education lies at the heart of our mission at Bethesda. We are proud to have made significant strides in providing quality education to visually impaired individuals. Our educational initiatives include:

A group of visually impaired graduates dressed in maroon and gold academic gowns and caps, seated and standing in rows on a blue stage at an outdoor graduation ceremony. The background features a white tent, a banner with a man's image, and a building with balconies. The graduates have various expressions, some smiling and others serious.
Sponsorship for University Education

We believe in the power of education to transform lives. Through the generous support of our donors, we sponsor blind individuals in universities, enabling them to pursue higher education and fulfill their potential.

A classroom with wooden desks and chairs, each with a school bag placed on it. The background features large bookshelves filled with neatly arranged black spiral-bound books, along with some colorful textbooks and other materials. The room has a warm, slightly aged atmosphere.
Braille Library:

Access to educational resources is essential for learning. Our braille library provides a wide range of reading materials in braille format, ensuring that our students have access to literature and knowledge.

A group of young people wearing matching purple shirts sitting in a classroom, each using a laptop and wearing earphones. A man in a white shirt is standing and engaging with them, possibly instructing or assisting. The background features a wall decorated with technology and social media icons, adding a digital learning atmosphere.
ICT Facilities:

In today's digital age, proficiency in technology is crucial. We offer ICT training to our students, equipping them with essential computer skills for academic and professional success. Through these initiatives, we ensure the all-round educational development of our members.

 Accommodation and Nurturing:

Our accommodation program (Bethesda “Home”) provides a supportive and nurturing environment for visually impaired individuals. Eligible members of society who meet our criteria are welcomed into Bethesda Home, where they receive:

A long line of people, mostly wearing purple shirts, waiting outdoors in the evening to receive food. Some individuals are holding plates or bowls while standing in line. A man in a yellow shirt is at the front, looking at his phone. In the background, there is a banner with text and additional people standing near the serving area.
Housing and Basic Needs:

We provide housing, clothing, and medical coverage for our members, ensuring their basic needs are met.

A group of visually impaired players engaged in a soccer match on a dusty, uneven field enclosed by a high wall. Two teams, one wearing blue jerseys and the other in red, are actively competing for the ball. The players are using a specially designed ball with sound to navigate the game. One player in blue is attempting to dribble past an opponent in red, while other players, including a goalkeeper near a simple goalpost, are positioned around the field. Some players are wearing blindfolds, and a few spectators stand in the background watching the game.
Integration into Society:

We believe in the importance of social inclusion. Through sports and outing activities, we encourage our members to actively participate in community life, fostering a sense of belonging and engagement.

Independence Training:

The home grooms blind individuals  to live independently. Our members develop essential life skills and gain the confidence to navigate the world around them.

Skill Acquisition:

Empowering our home members with practical skills is integral to our mission. While we are continually working on expanding our skill acquisition programs, we currently offer:

A group of visually impaired individuals seated in a classroom, dressed in white shirts and red ties, engaging in a craft activity. The young man in the foreground is weaving a beaded item, using his hands and mouth to guide the process. Another participant beside him is also focused on weaving. The classroom has wooden desks and chairs, with sunlight streaming in through the windows, casting light on the participants as they work.
Bead-Making:

Our bead-making program enables students to create a variety of bead designs, fostering creativity and entrepreneurship.

A group of visually impaired musicians performing under a tent. They are dressed in navy blue suits with white shirts and red ties. A man in the foreground is holding a saxophone, while others are playing drums and other instruments. Some musicians are wearing black hats. The atmosphere suggests a formal event or celebration, with the performers focused on their music
Musical Instrument Training:

Music is a powerful form of expression. We offer training in various musical instruments, resulting in the formation of musical bands, talented disc jockeys, drummers, and guitarists who showcase their skills at events and performances.

DJ Training:

Bethesda Home for the Blind is empowering its students by providing them with DJ training as part of their skill acquisition programs. This initiative is designed to enhance their career opportunities, foster creativity, and promote independence.

Dance Lessons:

Bethesda Home for the Blind is providing skill acquisition to its students through dance lessons, which serve as a valuable tool for personal development and empowerment.

Through these programs, we are dedicated to empowering visually impaired individuals, enabling them to lead fulfilling and independent lives. We still seek a lot more support in improving our skill acquisition options for our blind beneficiaries.
