Bethesda Students Qualify for the Global Codeavour AI Contest
We are pleased to share that our students have earned the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the Codeavour International Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia. This milestone follows their outstanding performance at the Codeavour 7.0 National Competition in Lagos. The event brought together some of the brightest young innovators from across the country, who gathered to showcase creative solutions powered by artificial intelligence and emerging technology. Among these talented participants was our very own student, who competed as part of the “Beyond Sight” team.
The team’s project aimed at solving everyday challenges faced by visually impaired individuals. They developed an AI-powered audio wearable to help users better understand and navigate their surroundings. In addition, they introduced a smart walking stick capable of detecting hazards such as fire and smoke, offering an added layer of safety and independence. Their solution was not only innovative but practical, thoughtful, and deeply rooted in empathy and lived experience. It stood out for its originality and real-world impact.
Qualifying for a global competition of this scale is no small feat for us. It not only attests to the students’ dedication but also reflects Bethesda’s continued commitment to empowering students with the tools, skills, and confidence necessary for thriving in a rapidly evolving world. What makes this moment truly special is what it represents. This success is a helpful reminder that ability is defined not by sight, but by vision, determination, and courage.
At Bethesda, we believe that every child has the potential to achieve greatness when given the right environment and support, more so, persons living with disabilities.
We are confident that our team will represent Bethesda and Nigeria with excellence, courage, and creativity to the world.
